Our small, fine Hotel Residence “Zur Post” is located in the centre of the South Tyrolean Dolomite village of Sesto and yet there is no sign of noise or hustle and bustle. It is a climate house A and is characterised by high energy efficiency. The use of high-quality natural materials creates a cosy atmosphere. The Dolomite peaks of the Three Peaks provide a breathtaking backdrop for your holiday in Alta Pusteria. In the immediate vicinity of your accommodation you will find shops, a doctor, pharmacy, hairdresser, banks as well as the church and the Rudolf Stolz Museum. The ski bus stops right outside the door and takes you to the Sexten Helm valley station in two minutes. Numerous walking and hiking trails start near the Hotel Residence Zur Post. In winter you can reach the cross-country ski trails in a short time.

The “Unterwirt”, which was run by the Fuchs family from San Candido, has been on the main square in Sesto since 1812. Sesto’s first post office was established in the same building in 1869.

In 1876 Johanna, the only daughter of the last Fuchs landlord, married Karl Stemberger from Bruneck. Hospitality and tourism in Sesto experienced an unexpected upswing with this innkeeper couple and their pioneering spirit. The inn “Zur Post”, as it was now called, already had guest rooms with electric light, which accommodated famous international mountaineers, among others. A pub garden and a bathing establishment also contributed to the comfort of the guests. At the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, Sesto was caught between the fronts of the mountain war between Austria and Italy. As a result, the inn was reduced to rubble. In the spring of 1918, the building was rebuilt and managed by his son Hans. In 1919, he married Monika Holzmeister, the sister of the renowned architect Clemens Holzmeister, who also drew up sketches of the house, which were not realised or only realised in part. The only son Hans-Jörg was killed at the front in 1945, a few days before the end of the Second World War. His father Hans Stemberger sold the house to the Bruneck dentist Dr Franz Niederkofler in 1957. It was subsequently leased for many years until the heirs, the siblings Dr Günther Niederkofler and Beatrix Seiler, née Niederkofler, decided in 2011 to give it a thorough renovation.

As this intention could not be realised due to the miserable building fabric and structural problems, the owner family decided to build a new building, which was to be architecturally based on the former house. This created a unique opportunity to create new spaces in the centre of Sesto where tourists and locals alike would feel at home.
